The Role of Fathers' in Supporting Exclusive Breastfeeding

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is essential for a baby's health and development. However, the role of fathers in supporting this is not well understood. This study aimed to identify and assess the main factors influencing fathers' involvement in supporting mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach and involved 157 fathers who had experience in supporting their partners in exclusive breastfeeding. The data collected were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: The results showed that fathers' support in convincing their wives not to be afraid of breastfeeding due to physical changes was associated with the success of exclusive breastfeeding and was the most influential factor. Fathers' involvement in supporting breastfeeding also had a positive impact on the well-being of mothers and babies and strengthened the couple's relationship. This study emphasizes the importance of increasing the role of fathers in supporting exclusive breastfeeding and providing appropriate support to enable them to become more actively involved. These steps are expected to improve exclusive breastfeeding success rates and overall family well-being.
