Authorship Criteria
Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan
Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan, a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Poltekkes Kemenkes Palu, is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, fairness, and academic integrity in scholarly authorship. The journal recognizes that authorship represents both meaningful intellectual contributions to scientific research and responsibility for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of published work.
The journal adopts internationally recognized authorship principles established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). These principles apply to all manuscripts submitted to Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan, including original research articles, literature reviews, case studies, and other scholarly contributions within the fields of nursing, midwifery, nutrition, public health, environmental health, reproductive health, health law, health education, health promotion, and related health sciences.
Authorship must be based on genuine scholarly contributions rather than academic position, institutional authority, professional relationships, financial support, or administrative involvement.
1. Authorship Requirements
All individuals listed as authors in manuscripts submitted to Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan must meet all four authorship criteria established by the ICMJE, as described below:
1. Substantial Intellectual Contributions
Make substantial contributions to the conception or design of the study, acquisition of research data, analysis, or interpretation of research findings.
In health sciences research, these contributions may include formulating research questions, developing study protocols, designing clinical or community-based investigations, conducting epidemiological assessments, interpreting clinical or laboratory findings, analyzing health-related data, evaluating health interventions, or assessing implications for healthcare practice and public health policies.
2. Manuscript Preparation and Critical Review
Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.
Authors must contribute meaningfully to the scientific development and intellectual quality of the manuscript. Contributions limited to general language editing, proofreading, manuscript formatting, or administrative assistance do not independently qualify an individual for authorship.
3. Final Approval of the Manuscript
Review and approve the final version of the manuscript intended for publication.
All authors must understand and agree with the scientific content, research findings, interpretations, conclusions, and implications presented in the manuscript.
4. Accountability and Research Integrity
Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensure that questions concerning the accuracy, validity, or integrity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Each author must be able to identify their individual contributions, recognize the responsibilities of their co-authors, and have confidence in the integrity of the work performed by the research team.
All four criteria must be fulfilled. Individuals who do not satisfy these requirements should be appropriately acknowledged rather than included in the authorship list.
All individuals who make substantial intellectual contributions should also be given the opportunity to participate in manuscript preparation, critical review, and final approval so that eligible contributors are not unfairly excluded from authorship.
2. Author Contributions
Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan requires authors to provide a clear and accurate statement describing the individual contributions of each author to the research and manuscript preparation.
The journal encourages the use of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to ensure transparency, accountability, and consistency in reporting scholarly contributions.
Recognized contributor roles include:
-
Conceptualization: Developing research ideas, formulating scientific questions, establishing research objectives, and defining the overall study concept.
-
Methodology: Designing research methods, study protocols, sampling procedures, measurement instruments, clinical assessments, or analytical approaches.
-
Investigation: Conducting research activities, clinical or community-based investigations, laboratory examinations, participant assessments, surveys, interviews, or health-related data collection.
-
Data Curation: Organizing, managing, validating, documenting, and maintaining research datasets.
-
Formal Analysis: Performing statistical, mathematical, epidemiological, qualitative, or computational analysis of research findings.
-
Validation: Verifying the accuracy, reliability, reproducibility, and consistency of research procedures, analytical methods, and results.
-
Visualization: Preparing scientific tables, figures, graphs, charts, diagrams, and other visual presentations of research findings.
-
Writing – Original Draft: Preparing the initial manuscript and developing its scientific arguments, interpretations, and intellectual content.
-
Writing – Review & Editing: Critically reviewing, revising, and improving the manuscript for scientific accuracy, clarity, consistency, and intellectual quality.
-
Supervision: Providing scientific oversight, research guidance, and academic supervision throughout the study.
-
Project Administration: Coordinating research activities, managing project implementation, and organizing research-related administrative processes.
-
Funding Acquisition: Securing financial support or research grants for the study.
-
Resources: Providing research materials, instruments, facilities, clinical resources, or other essential research resources.
-
Software: Developing, implementing, or maintaining software, computer programs, algorithms, or digital tools used in the research.
Multiple authors may share the same contributor role, and individual authors may perform several roles.
However, assignment of one or more CRediT roles does not independently establish eligibility for authorship. All individuals identified as authors must satisfy the four ICMJE authorship criteria.
The Author Contributions statement must accurately reflect the work performed by each author and must be reviewed and approved by all listed authors before manuscript submission.
3. Corresponding Author
The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the author group and the editorial office of Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan throughout the manuscript submission, peer-review, revision, publication, and post-publication processes.
The corresponding author is responsible for:
-
Ensuring that all listed authors meet the journal's established authorship criteria.
-
Confirming that all authors have reviewed and approved the submitted manuscript.
-
Obtaining agreement from all authors concerning the authorship list and author order.
-
Ensuring that author names, institutional affiliations, and contact information are accurate and complete.
-
Submitting the manuscript through the journal's Online Journal System (OJS) and responding to editorial and reviewer communications.
-
Coordinating manuscript revisions and ensuring that all authors approve the revised or final manuscript before submission.
-
Ensuring that relevant ethical declarations, research ethics approval, informed consent statements, clinical trial registration information when applicable, conflicts of interest, funding disclosures, author contribution statements, and AI-use declarations are accurately completed.
-
Ensuring that the submitted manuscript complies with the journal's Author Guidelines, publication ethics requirements, and applicable research reporting standards.
-
Responding to questions concerning the manuscript after publication and cooperating with legitimate requests for clarification, supporting documentation, or additional research information.
-
Maintaining communication with all co-authors regarding important editorial decisions and publication-related matters.
The corresponding author must be clearly identified in the manuscript with an asterisk (*) and a valid email address, in accordance with the journal's Author Guidelines.
Designation as the corresponding author does not reduce the responsibilities of other co-authors for the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the published work.
All authors share collective responsibility for ensuring that the manuscript meets appropriate scientific and ethical standards.
4. Changes in Authorship
Any proposed addition, removal, or rearrangement of authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a clear written explanation and agreement from all authors concerned.
Requests for authorship changes must include:
-
A written justification explaining the reason for the proposed authorship modification.
-
Confirmation that the revised authorship arrangement accurately reflects the intellectual contributions of all individuals involved.
-
Written agreement from all existing authors and any individuals being added to or removed from the authorship list.
-
An updated Author Contributions statement when necessary.
-
Any additional supporting documentation requested by the Editorial Board.
The Editorial Board of Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan will review the submitted request and supporting documentation before determining whether the proposed change may be accepted.
Authorship changes will not be approved solely on the basis of academic position, institutional authority, professional relationships, financial interests, or other considerations unrelated to genuine scholarly contributions.
The order of authors must be determined collectively by the author group and should reflect an agreement reached among the contributors.
When an authorship dispute cannot be resolved among the authors, the journal may request additional clarification and refer the matter to the relevant institution or research organization for investigation.
The journal reserves the right to suspend manuscript processing while serious authorship disputes remain unresolved.
Requests for authorship changes after publication may require additional editorial assessment and, where appropriate, the publication of a formal correction in accordance with recognized publication ethics procedures.
5. Acknowledgments
Individuals who contribute to research activities or manuscript preparation but do not meet all four authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section, with their permission.
Such contributions may include:
-
Technical assistance, laboratory support, or assistance with clinical examinations.
-
Administrative, organizational, or logistical support during research implementation.
-
Assistance with participant recruitment, health surveys, interviews, or field data collection that does not meet the complete authorship requirements.
-
General academic or research supervision without substantial intellectual involvement.
-
Language editing, proofreading, manuscript formatting, or other editorial assistance.
-
Institutional assistance, access to healthcare facilities, or provision of research equipment and resources.
-
Financial or material support for research activities.
-
Assistance from healthcare professionals, community health workers, or other individuals who support research implementation without fulfilling all authorship criteria.
Acknowledgments must accurately describe the contributions provided and must not imply endorsement of the research findings or conclusions without the individual's consent.
Individuals must not be included as authors solely because they provided research funding, institutional approval, access to research facilities, general supervision, or administrative assistance.
Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan does not permit honorary authorship, gift authorship, guest authorship, or ghost authorship.
All individuals who satisfy the authorship criteria must be appropriately recognized as authors, while individuals who do not qualify for authorship should not be included in the author list.
The journal encourages transparent acknowledgment of all relevant non-author contributions to promote fairness and integrity in scholarly publishing.
6. Use of Artificial Intelligence in Authorship
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and other AI-assisted technologies, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan.
AI systems do not qualify for authorship because they cannot assume responsibility for scientific accuracy, approve a manuscript for publication, disclose conflicts of interest, or be accountable for the integrity of published research.
Authors who use AI-assisted technologies during research activities or manuscript preparation must comply with the journal's applicable policies concerning the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and generative AI in scholarly publishing.
Authors remain fully responsible for:
-
Ensuring the accuracy, originality, validity, and scientific integrity of all AI-assisted manuscript content.
-
Independently verifying scientific statements, research findings, citations, references, and digital object identifiers (DOIs).
-
Ensuring that AI-generated materials do not contain plagiarism, fabricated information, inaccurate scientific claims, or misleading interpretations.
-
Protecting confidential research information, participant identities, personal health data, and other sensitive information when using AI technologies.
-
Transparently disclosing substantive AI assistance in manuscript preparation, literature analysis, data analysis, image generation, or other research activities.
-
Ensuring that AI-assisted technologies do not replace independent scientific judgment, critical analysis, or the intellectual contributions required of human authors.
-
Reviewing and validating all AI-assisted outputs before incorporating them into the manuscript.
Any substantive use of generative AI must be transparently declared in the appropriate section of the manuscript, such as the Acknowledgments or Methods section, depending on the purpose and extent of its use.
Authors should identify the AI tool used and clearly explain how the technology contributed to manuscript preparation or research activities when disclosure is required.
AI technologies must not be used to fabricate research data, falsify clinical or laboratory findings, manipulate scientific images, conceal plagiarism, generate fabricated references, or misrepresent scientific evidence.
The use of AI technologies does not reduce, replace, or transfer the accountability of human authors.
All submitted manuscripts must demonstrate authentic scholarly contributions and comply with the journal's requirements for research integrity, transparency, and ethical publication.
7. Authorship Integrity and Editorial Responsibility
Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan is committed to protecting the integrity of scholarly authorship and ensuring that all published research reflects genuine scientific contributions.
The journal reserves the right to request clarification, supporting documentation, or additional information regarding authorship and individual author contributions whenever concerns arise during manuscript evaluation or after publication.
The editorial team may examine suspected cases of inappropriate authorship, including honorary authorship, gift authorship, ghost authorship, undisclosed contributors, misrepresentation of author contributions, and disputes concerning intellectual ownership.
Where necessary, the journal may:
-
Request additional explanations or supporting documentation from the corresponding author.
-
Seek confirmation of individual contributions from all listed authors.
-
Request clarification concerning the research process, manuscript development, or author responsibilities.
-
Consult relevant academic institutions, research ethics committees, or research organizations when formal investigation is required.
-
Take appropriate editorial action in accordance with established publication ethics procedures and applicable journal policies.
The Editorial Board will assess authorship-related concerns fairly and objectively, considering the available evidence and the rights and responsibilities of all individuals involved.
Serious violations of authorship integrity may result in manuscript rejection, suspension of the editorial process, or appropriate post-publication actions, including the publication of corrections or retractions when justified.
The journal recognizes that decisions concerning authorship eligibility and author order are primarily the collective responsibility of the author group. Institutional investigation may be necessary when authorship disagreements cannot be resolved internally.
Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan is committed to maintaining ethical editorial practices and safeguarding the credibility, transparency, and accountability of published scientific research.
8. Final Statement
Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan upholds the principle that scholarly authorship must be based on genuine intellectual contributions, transparent reporting, collective responsibility, and commitment to scientific integrity.
All individuals identified as authors must meet the established ICMJE authorship criteria, approve the final manuscript, and accept accountability for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of the published work.
Authors are expected to report their contributions accurately, disclose relevant conflicts of interest, comply with applicable research ethics requirements, and adhere to the journal's publication ethics and artificial intelligence policies.
By submitting a manuscript to Poltekita: Jurnal Ilmu Kesehatan, all authors acknowledge their responsibilities under this Authorship Policy and confirm their commitment to responsible research conduct and ethical scholarly publishing.
The journal may periodically review and update this policy to maintain consistency with internationally recognized standards for authorship, contributorship, research integrity, and publication ethics.
